Christmas is coming, and it can’t be ignored! Every serious retailer now has something festive on offer. From Cadburys Christmas puddings in corner stores to full blown festive aisles in The Range, shops are taking advantage of the fact that consumers are shopping and are well and truly embracing the imminent festive season.

What about salons? GREAT NEWS, I have seen some incredible social media posts that salons have been sharing showcasing their Christmas gift offerings, salons that have their festive packs out and available right now. This is such a positive thing to do as it gives clients the opportunity to purchase haircare sets whilst they are in the salon, rather than heading off to ‘that chemist’ and (or) choosing gifts from other outlets.

But not every salon has decided to embrace the festive potential, this is the wrong approach, and whilst its understandable, after all it’s still October; but if everywhere else is capturing impulse sales, salons that don’t have anything on offer will for sure miss out!

Here’s my top tips for generating a positive Christmas retail environment.

  • Make sure your gift selections are easily accessible, client want to pick them up and have a look.
  • Price everything clearly.
  • Have areas throughout the salon dedicated to Christmas, you don’t need to fully decorate just yet!
  • Carry a range of gifts at different prices:
  1. Impulse purchase, brushes, bobbles, scrunchies, sample sizes, travel packs, items that are purchased without thinking about them.
  2. Entry level products for stocking fillers and secret Santa ideas.
  3. Mid price ranges, gift sets that are affordable but have a more luxurious feel to them.
  4. Aspirational products and equipment, perfect for those looking to purchase extra special gifts for loved ones.
  5. Gift vouchers, an absolute must at this time of the year.

Share teasers on your social platforms, images of the gifts you have available, graphics that suggest giving the gift of hair care this Christmas.

  • Hold a team meeting NOW and get your teams fully up to speed with everything you have available and encourage them to open up the dialogue with their clients …. ‘have you started your Christmas shopping yet?’ ‘did you know there are only two pay days before Christmas?’ – introductory conversation that opens up dialogue about festive gifting.
  • Think about offering a gift wrap service, this is brilliant for those clients who don’t really like the idea of having to wrap things.
  • Arrange salon gift nights, invite clients to come along and browse your festive gifts, have a glass of something fizzy and a mince pie and shop at leisure.
  • If you have a website and (or) e-commerce platform, SHOUT OUT CHRISTMAS NOW!!
  • Create offers linked to retail purchases that get clients back into the salon in January – like free treatments with cut and blow drys, something that encourages visits early in 2026.

Don’t miss out on the biggest opportunities for successful retailing that are happening right now. Embrace the festive moment and enjoy a bigger better retail season.
