Less than three weeks to go till we enter a new year, and with the start of 2026 comes a host of new challenges for every business to deal with. 2026 – are you ready? The economic maelstrom will continue unabashed and that means everyone will be more cautious with their hard earned cash (or what’s left after taxes, bills and the general cost of living have been taken into consideration).
The good news for our industry is people always want their hair to look fabulous and are happy to invest in their salon visits. What they are also happy to invest in is their haircare, and as [clients] grow ever more aware of products, it becomes even more important for salons to carry product ranges that offer a point of difference to the mass market that is saturated with brand that meet the needs of all spending patterns.
Some consumers search for (1) cheap and cheerful brands that offer a very basic level of haircare, others opt for (2) mid market product ranges that deliver a good all round result. And then there’s the consumer who wants (3) aspirational, designer, high end brands that deliver optimum results.
Take a walk round those big chemist stores, supermarkets and have a look at online stores, they all offer all three categories in abundance to capture as many sales as possible.
Salons MUST DO THE SAME if they want to seriously compete against mass market retailers, and they must look at their current brands and analyse if they fit the salon vibe, or do they need to change?
2026…. MAKE THAT CHANGE. If brands in salon are the same as what’s available on the high street, sales will suffer because the big boys on the high street will ALWAYS GET A BETTER DEAL than any salon or salon group.
