I have spent more than 45 years in the hairdressing industry and have, for the past 7.5 years been an independent consultant specialising in communication within the hairdressing industry.
With a wealth of experience in style, colour, treatments, home-care products and the ever popular and relevant world of social media, I believe I can help product companies, salons, stylists, and retailers move to a new level in communicating and developing your businesses, over-coming challenges and growing customer bases.
Based in Edinburgh, my time in the industry has taken me around the world whilst working for well-known leading brands including Wella Professionals, Tigi Professional, Schwarzkopf Professional, The Kao organisation, including Goldwell, Moroccanoil, and Balmain Hair Couture, where I have been fortunate enough to brush shoulders with the glitterati of the hairdressing world; this, has given me a deep insight into the industry and a clear understanding of the future of the hairdressing industry.
“It’s about understanding the art of communication, growing customer loyalty, captivating clients and especially with the explosion in online shopping, capturing the retail market to grow your bottom line and making sure your business is #FutureProof. This has become ever more relevant since the pandemic and how it has impacted on product purchases and consulter shopping habits”
As a business consultant I offer product companies, salon owners and stylists’ real customer-focused training that meets the demands of everyone, including the stylist, the salon owner, product suppliers and the clients.
“The training delivered is bespoke, tailor-made to meet the needs of individual businesses, it’s a win-win for everyone”
Having developed training materials for most of the largest product houses, trained sales teams, hairdressers and consumers, I feel I am well equipped to deliver materials and presentations that can create a new, fresh and dynamic approach to the world of hair.
With many many years experience as an educator and presenter, my formative years led me to set up my own consultancy, that and the desire to share knowledge of our industry that has ben gathered over the last 45 years of being part of the hairdressing world.
Offering something different and unbiased to the art of haircare education. with an online advice and review site, www.emilmcmahon.com and a list of credentials that reads like a who’s who of the hair world, (I know lots of people), my aim is to bring excitement and passion to everything I deliver.
As most people know, I’m obsessed with social media and caretake lots of different businesses platforms, actively encouraging real, genuine growth and engagement from followers, existing and potentially new clients. Social media is a challenge to stay on top of and that’s why I offer management of your platforms as a stress free element of Emil McMahon Consultancy.
I am also the author of the successful book ‘Don’t Sell, Being Amazonian’ a book that delves deep into retailing and the continuing growth of online shopping. This book will soon be followed up with volume 2: ‘Don’t Sell, Hairdressers and retail, the new norm’. Watch this space for more details.
