Don’t forget to blog
Regular readers of this blog will know that a lot of effort goes into posting regular blogs. Why is that? Well, even in this day and age when social media is all consuming, if someone decided to check [me] out via Google (other search engines are available 🤣) then the first platform they will be directed to will be the website, the umbrella ☂️ under which everything else sits.
Most people will 🤞🏼 then click the link to visit the website and (hopefully) have a wander around the various pages. Whilst browsing they will click on the ‘blog’ link and check out what’s happening.
A blog is like your very own news channel, and as such it should be regularly updated, as should the homepage and other aspects of a website that features information.
Social media, of course plays a huge part in sharing details about your business, but it’s only ever a brief moment, a snippet of info and an image, whereas a blog allows you to share more in-depth posts.
In the interest of research, I recently took it upon myself to go browsing through lots of salons and product company’s websites to discover just how up to date they were!

To say I was shocked would be an understatement, almost all that were visited, and there was quite a few, had a blog page …. BUT some of them hadn’t been updated for over a year! One even had its last post shared 3 years ago.
There are, thankfully, salons and product companies that embrace the importance of a good blog, sharing interesting and informative posts that tell in-depth stories about the business.
What to do? If you have a blog and don’t populate it, hide the page. Anyone who visits a website and sees a blog that hasn’t been updated for months gets a negative subliminal message about the sate of the business, better to not have one than one that is old and out of date.
WHAT SHOULD BE FEATURED ON A BLOG?
As a general guide, these 5 topics can be regularly updated and keep the blog page relevant and fresh.
1: Team members and news about them.
2: Product updates.
3: Services offered.
4: Trend updates.
5: Promotions and Special Offers.
Back to the umbrella ☂️
- Your website is the most important social media platform, featuring regular image updates on the home page and blogs shared at least every 14 days.
- Facebook: Still the world’s largest social media platform, annoying with all the adverts, but used by more people for longer each day than any other site.
- Instagram, hugely popular, create a grid that is engaging as well as videos for stories and reels.
- TikTok, use it for fun stuff, but not at the cost of a serious message about your business.
- X is good for short sharp bursts of info.
- WhatsApp and Snapchat: relevant if you use them for appointments etc.
- E-commerce platform, generate your share of online sales with your own web-shop, ideally linked to and featured on your website.
- And don’t forget E-blasts, a great way to share offers and news to your subscribed clients.
