It’s coming, whether you like it or not, Christmas is on its way! That giant chemist has the annual 3 for 2 promotion available right now! That means salon clients will be starting to shop, purchasing gifts that they see whilst out shopping.
That [also] means salons have to get a festive mindset. The previously shared blog post Don’t Panic – Think looked at what you need to think about …. this blog looks at the ten most important things you need to start actioning RIGHT NOW.
1: STOCK: have you ordered festive gifts yet? If not, get on the case right now! You need to have a selection of gifts that clients can purchase. And even if you don’t have them, you must start talking about them, face to face and on your socials. And your regular stock needs to be topped up so that your salon looks like a retail environment.
2: SOCIAL MEDIA: You don’t have to decorate the salon, but you do need to start sharing the occasional ‘coming soon’ festive posts that let your followers know what you will have available in salon.
3: TEAM MEETING: Have a meeting that discusses the festive season, the ups and downs, the highs and lows. The ups … an increase in client visits, the downs … struggling to meed demand, what can you do to help this situation? The highs … Clients getting excited (even now) about Christmas, the lows … talking about something that still feels months away, and in the midst of the best summer for a long time.
4: BEYOND CHRISTMAS: Think about what you can do to encourage clients to purchase gifts from the salon, and add a special offer for early 2026 that is a DOUBLE WHAMMY – clients appreciate the gift you give them for purchasing from you, and the salon gets more clients in the quieter start of the year.
5: IMPULSE PURCHASES: It’s proven that shoppers add small items to their shopping basket when they are out shopping, so if it works for chemists and supermarkets, it can work for you as well. Add a range of affordable goodies, and have them on or near the reception desk, I guarantee they will sell!
6: GIFT WRAPPING: An easy one to offer, and one that lots of people will take advantage of. Wrapping presents adds an element of luxury to the retail offering, nothing too fancy, juts beautiful paper and a little bow and tag, it’s a sure fire way to get clients purchasing from you.
7: INCENTIVISE THE TEAM: Create an incentive for EVERYONE TO WIN something from. Make sure the team understand this is not a hard sell drive, it’s a way of communicating what you have available for clients to purchase, and as a thank you for achieving, there is something in it for all the team.
8: GIFT NIGHTS: There’s time to plan, so do it now, create an event (or two) and invite clients along to a special evening where the gift sets, gift wrapping, impulse purchases are all available. Add in a few nibbles and some fizz and create a festive retail event that will help you generate greater sales.
9: MERCHANDISE: Don’t just put your festive offerings on shelves and hope for the best. Create an experience where clients feel comfortable browsing your Christmas gift options. Check out what department stores do to entice customers and then replicate that in your salon environment.
10: DON’T PANIC – THINK: The big retailers players are ready to go, but that doesn’t mean you will lose out, all you need to do is take some time out to plan your festive strategy and implement each step slowly but surely.
