QUESTION: What kind of person are you? Do you follow the pack? Do you play safe? Do you avoid change? If you answered yes to any of those question you should probably not read any further.
Life is too short to not, at least once in your business life, break free – you can go your own way.
As our awesome industry gets battered and beaten daily by companies that have no thought for the survival of the industry that most probably made them into the behemoths that they are today, it’s time to take a step back, analyse your salon and what it delivers that makes it stand out from the crowd, that makes it something extra special, a business that chooses to go down a path that is exclusively salon professional focussed.
Since the change with some product companies last year I have noticed some salon owners taking the decision to find brands that support them, others, for whatever reason have decided to stay with the company they are used to. As I say in all my blog posts about this matter, it is always each to their own, and the people who stay with the suppliers who are not salon exclusive will most likely follow the pack, stay safe and avoid change.
I get it, I really do, those big fella’s have always offered things that smaller companies don’t, I’m talking lavish competitions and huge networking events, and of course discounts that act as a sweetener to keep salon owners happy.
But, what will salons face next? The tip of the iceberg is there for us all to see, and if it becomes as successful as the manufacturers hope it will then the roll out of other ‘salon professional’ products will happen. You can see this across the globe where brands deemed ‘exclusive’ are found in drugstores and supermarkets already…. it’s really only a matter of time before it happens here as well.
And yet, as I say constantly, there are companies out there that truly support our PROFESSIONAL INDUSTRY, companies that don’t supply professional brands to mass market outlets. Surely it makes sense to that, at the very, least look at what these brands have to offer.
Don’t be a lemming, don’t follow the crowd, don’t play safe and don’t let your business slowly fade because your current supplier has got their eye on something much bigger than your business.
