You may have noticed that as of late, there hasn’t been much talk about social media and where it might be heading.

We were told a couple of years ago that still (static) imagery was out and video was in, everything had to be animated otherwise you would lose out on potential engagement. It seems like that decision has changed as, especially on Instagram the surge in cool, flat imagery and graphics has definitely been bigger than the amount of videos posted and engaged with.

We were told to use lots of ################# something I have personally never done, and I’ve always recommended a maximum of 6 per post. Now it seems that the good old hashtag is being slowly replaced by key words. All I have to say on this is, do a mixture of both but always make sure your # are relevant to your business and the post you have created.

TikTok madness seems to be settling down, there are not as many of the crazy videos floating around. I am concerned by the amount of big companies that have jumped on this bandwagon and regularly post ‘fun’ clips that, in my opinion devalue their brand equity. That’s not to say for individuals, not corporations, that they don’t have some value, just not all the time.

Threads is being pushed onto every Instagram user and randomly the app automatically follows people on your behalf. The engagement on this platform is negligible, but it’s early days yet.

New Facebook pages where you can hide your true identity. This is one I’m watching closely as it lends itself to abuse, and heaven knows there’s enough of that on FB already with spam shops etc.

Scammers on Instagram seem to come and go, it’s either a frenzy of dodgy requests or nothing at all, nonetheless this is something the algorithms need to fix once and for all.

X ….. time will tell whether it’s going to work or not.

Snapchat …. Ditto.

Instagram Reels and Stories, aren’t they just the same thing really? Followers can be okay but I’m not convinced they lead to much business.

NOTE: Blogposts and e-blasts are seeing growth across the board. Post regular blogs that are relevant, engaging and informative. E-blasts should be a blend of promotional activities and interesting articles.

Perhaps something new, as in really new is coming and we just have to wait patiently for it to arrive, but until then remember, Facebook is still No.1 globally and is looked at for longer by users every day. It also has the widest reach of demographics.

Drawing on personal experiences, salon business and the challenges sales people face in their daily life,
I’ve created a story that can be used in salons and on sales calls that will help overcome the challenges faced in the world of retailing.
