The Cambridge Dictionary describes the word Disruptor, from a business perspective as ‘a company that changes the traditional way it operates, especially in a new and effective way’ – and from an individual’s perspective it suggests ‘a person or thing that prevents something, especially a system, process or event from continuing as usual or as expected’.
In the world of hairdressing disruptors challenge the norm and create new, bold hairstyles that break free of stereotypical styles, offering exciting and original shapes, cuts, colours, curls and waves that clients want!
In the world of haircare disruptors innovate with products that deliver extraordinary results, and they create new market segments that salons can benefit from, generating additional revenue and encouraging repeat visits to the salon whilst also generating healthier retail sales from salon exclusive products.
But surely everything can’t be disruptive? We need stability as well as innovation, we need safety as well as risk.
Disruptors understand this and that’s where their key strengths are… maintaining a normal day to day working relationship with clients, be they salon customers or salon owners, disruptors understand the need for stability as well as new opportunities.
When those new opportunities come along, disruptors rise to the challenge and benefit from their approach, it’s a fine blend of day to day normality and challenges that break with the norm, creating something invigorating for everyone involved.
The opportunities being a disruptor brings cannot be underestimated, everyone is always on the look out for something new, and when those moments of innovation come along, when something new and exciting arrives, stepping out of the daily comfort zone and moving into the disruptive arena brings incredible results.
So why disrupt(or) as the header of this post?
It’s simple, in a world where normality is the safe bet on a daily basis; innovation and change dictates that you either ….. disrupt or fail.
