And so it continues; the shift from ‘salon professional’ to mass market from some companies whose entire existence began with, and became successful because of the world of hairdressing takes more gigantic leaps.

This week alone I have seen one of the brands (no name, you know who they are) decide to offer styling hints and tips in mass market outlets, sharing advice about the right products that (conveniently) can be purchased in situ. This clearly indicates that the next steps are now taking place and a push toward more activities on the high street is the focus.

In a way this makes the fact that whilst on holiday (see previous post) where I saw some ‘professional’ brands colour ranges available in chemist stores, seem more inevitable here.

And then to add fuel to my #ProForPro fire I see another brand that owes its success solely to the hairdressing community launch a ‘revolutionary new product’ in salons at the same time as it goes into the mass market channels. The thing that irks here is the social media associated with this launch talks about the mass market options first and foremost, leaving hairdressing salons as  a poor second afterthought.

Plus brands looking at every possible sales opportunity online, irrespective of the obvious damage this does to salon retail sales just seems to be growing exponentially.

BTW: the image above created using AI, the only way I find it of value.

Seriously though, it’s definitely time to get serious and stand up for your business rights. It’s a fact that  small businesses, like hairdressing salons, cannot compete with the buying power of a huge organisation, and that means anything carried in your salon that is available in mass market channels and on every possible website can only do one thing, and that’s die.

Instead of letting the inevitable happen, fight back, remove the brands that don’t support you and find brands that will. From the price to the performance, from business help to education, from marketing to promotional activities, brands that are truly SALON PROFESSIONAL are ready to help you grow every aspect of your business. Don’t wait till your colour brand suddenly pops up on the high street, don’t sit back and let your retail fail, do something about it now.

As always I am more than happy to help you find the brands that suit you and your salon vibe.
