In case you think it’s too early to start talking about your festive offerings, Christmas is 87 days away, that’s just over 12 weeks, or 3 months. But, don’t forget, most of your clients will now only have 3 pay checks before the big day, Sept, Oct and Nov.

The big retailers are all gearing up, and are after your clients Christmas shopping, from Boots to Asos, TK Maxx to Tesco, every store and online shop are starting in earnest to ‘get festive’.

We have had  some odd festive seasons over the last few years with the pandemic affecting every aspect of our normal holiday routines. Fortunately, we are now through that, but we have to face the fact that the financial crisis we are currently in the midst of is going to have an impact on your clients shopping patterns this year.

What can you do to ensure you get your fair share of the busiest retail quarter of the year?

  1. Start talking festive gifts now, plant the seed in your client’s mind and let them know what you have coming to your salon soon.
  2. If your gift sets have arrived, get them out on display and make sure the prices, with any special discounts, are clearly marked for everyone to see.
  3. Look at creating bespoke gift packs for clients, offer a variety of prices that meet every budget, and perhaps you can give complimentary gift wrapping as part of the service.
  4. If possible, offer staggered payments that clients can spread over 3 months, this is becoming increasingly popular online and as such it needs to be mirrored in bricks and mortar.
  5. Give clients who purchase gift sets an exclusive voucher with discount off services in 2023. Put a time limit on usage, perhaps throughout Jan and Feb. This will be a good way of getting people through your doors when the quiet start to the year comes along.
  6. Shout out about Christmas and your festive offerings on your social platforms.Utilise the marketing materials your supplier gives you, but also create your own imagery as the latest data suggests that your own imagery is more appealing to clients browsing for inspiration.
  7. Look at additional items you can carry that can be purchased at the desk, impulse purchases go through the roof this time of the year, think brushes, combs, hair accessories etc.
  8. Have a broad range of gifts that cover all price ranges. keep checking in here as we get ready to do our annual round up of all things festive from the major players in the hairdressing world.
  9. Get your team on board, explain why you need them to talk about the festive gifts and your personalised offerings  right now.
  10. Set an incentive for every member of the team, give each person the opportunity to achieve a ‘win’ and they will get behind the promotion of everything you have to offer. Remember it’s all about telling not selling.

Get festive, it really is time to do it! #JingleBells #DeckTheHalls #ChristmasIsComing
