18th October 2024
This time last week I was on a flight to London City Airport, heading to Salon International for the first time in a few years, not just to see what was happening, but to also deliver a presentation on the Business Live Stage.
I was very kindly asked by Jayne Lewis Orr, Executive Director of Professional Beauty Group if I would consider delivering a presentation when we met up at a Moroccanoil Elite Showcase event. Naturally I said YES!
Saturday morning I got myself up, bright and early, had a hearty breakfast and headed over to Excel where Salon International is held. There were lots of hairdressers milling around the main concourse. How did I know they were hairdressers? It was easy, almost everyone was wearing black designer clothing… it gave the game away. Even I had donned the traditional uniform of hairdressers…. all black!
the doors opened and I headed into the auditorium for a wander round. there were lots of stands showcasing brands, some familiar; some new to me. I was very impressed with Alfa Italia and SHED #salonhaireveryday (love that acronym), and was blown away by the BHA gallery. There were lots of new products and new companies which is refreshing to see. It was lovely to bump into so many familiar faces, Jayne, Phil Ivaldi at K18, Stephanie Bruce – new GM at HBSA; and Jonathan Littler from Alan Howard, Gayle and Ross from Warehouse 5 (Eleven Australia), Patrick Cameron, the Mahogany team, Spencer and Amanda at Spencer Scissors, The Joy team (Moroccanoil), Ross Miller and Jackie, Phil Collins, Lyndsey from Evolve and many more.
My presentation was all about retail and understanding generations, two of my BIG OBSESSIONS, focussing in on the need to create a more dynamic experience for the client to engage them with the retail brands carried in salons.
Feedback was positive, which is the most important factor for any presentation. Hopefully the audience went back to their businesses with ideas to help them meet the ever changing demands of consumers (clients) and the challenging world of retail.
Thank you Jayne Lewis Orr for inviting me. See you next year!
