We were recently fortunate enough to receive an advanced launch of some new hair tools. Conceptual Tools have recently stepped into the world of hairdressing equipment and started their campaign with Re/Foils and tint brushes, quite possibly two of the most challenging products to bring to market as hairdressers know what they like and are very particular about their brushes and foils.

I have known Nick Conn, the founder of Conceptual Tools for many many years, too many to remember, but if I hazard a guess it’s got to be at least 35. We worked for the same salon group for a while and we also socialised as part of a wider group of (hairdressing) friends. We lost touch when I moved to Scotland but then reconnected via Facebook where I discovered he had gone down the education route with Wella, the same as I had, only he was in Canada and I had left by the time he joined.

So I was naturally intrigued when I saw he was launching some new products in his own company. the Re/Foils and tint brushes arrived and I shipped them out to some hairdresser friends and here’s  what they had to say.

Ross Miller from Renella in Falkirk says “At the start I found Re/Foils very thick feeling and just different to what I am used to, they were a little awkward to adjust initially as they fold ok but not as easy as conventional thinner foils. I found that they can spring open a little too so I had to generally fold the edges (see pics above). However, as you use them that becomes normal and much easier. Some clients thought they were a little heavier, but nothing major. Colour applies and adheres to them easily and they wash out with ease as well. So, all in all just different. I think some stylists might in the first instance resists them because of the feel and how to use them, but that’s just how folks are. I have to say, from a reusable perspective, they are brilliant and I will continue using them”.

Carrie from Luv Hair in Stirling says: “I Luv the tint brush, I find myself having to re jig colour measurements as not as much product is needed because the spread from the bristles is so good. I’m getting used to the Re/Foils as they are much thicker than what I am used to using, but I do like the concept of them and see them as being an important addition to my hairdressing tools because of the environmentally friendly concept. Using them, cleaning them and reusing them is easy, and yes, after the first use, I discovered that the memory folds do work!!”

Drawing on personal experiences, salon business and the challenges sales people face in their daily life,
I’ve created a story that can be used in salons and on sales calls that will help overcome the challenges faced in the world of retailing.
