“I’m too scared to change my colour brand” if I have heard those words once I must have heard them a thousand times.

It is very easy to understand why salon owners, hairdressers and colourists are a tad nervous about the idea of switching from something they know and trust to a brand that they are not familiar with. What if the tones are all different, what if the natural shades are blue based, or red based, or a combination of both? What if the mixing ratios are different, and what about corrective techniques?

Well I am here to say DON’T WORRY, if you know colour, and have a good understanding of basic colour theory, switching brands isn’t scary at all. Having worked for some of the worlds largest colour companies and written, devised and developed training materials for brands that are recognised as global leaders, I can categorically state that the knowledge you already have is enough to make any transition almost seamless. The word ALMOST is relevant as naturally there are some slight differences between brands, that’s to be expected, but those changes overall are minimal. Of course each brand  has its own set of USP’s but an analysis of the key ingredients might well surprise.

Salon owners, hairdressers and colourists are incredibly loyal to products that they grow familiar with, but what happens from a salon perspective is favourite shades are used frequently, others not so much, and when those [favourite] shades are discontinued, the salon team find their way round discovering alternatives.

From a product company perspective, it’s a constant push to maintain your loyalty with their colour brand whilst other aspects of their portfolio are being seen here, there and everywhere. Interestingly enough, on a recent trip to Italy I saw these companies ‘salon professional’ products in general chemist stores.

Changing colour house naturally includes an element of debate and lots of research, but the absolute truth is that there are  an amazing selection of colours that deliver 💯  at a fraction of the cost of the dominant brands, and in a world where salons need to look at all costs, switching colour brand is an easy way to very quickly increase the bottom line. It’s also a great way of salon owners supporting true SALON PROFESSIONAL BRANDS that are doing everything they can to maintain high levels of professionalism within the industry.

Colour – the great debate, the only debate should be, why are you waiting?
