Now that’s a sweeping statement if every there was one …. ‘why changing your colour house might be the best thing you do this year’ … but let me explain why I think this might be a real game changer for you, for your team and for your salon business.

Have you ever noticed how excited your technicians and stylists get when clients come in and say “I fancy a colour change”. Yes there’s a little bit of apprehension, what to do with the existing colour, how to remove darker depths, how to correctly balance root application to mid length etc, but, the excitement is real, it’s palpable and it makes your team really put their brain into gear to use their knowledge and understanding of colour.

Likewise when a client comes in for their regular colour, the lack of enthusiasm and excitement is also palpable, stylists and technicians go into autopilot to create the result they are aiming for, the result that they could probably do blind-folded and with one arm tied behind their back.

Changing colour house is a daunting thought for many salon owners, and yet, if you have a team who understand colour, who have a grasp on colour theory, depth, tone, lightening, primary, secondary and tertiary colours, and all of the basics that are required to function as a hairdresser who colours, then change is actually relatively easy. Yes, your team have their favourite shades from your supplier, but a little bit of thought and understanding can help them re-create if that’s what they want to do, alternatively they can give clients the exciting chance to try a new shade or tone; there you go, this all it takes to  get more of that palpable sense of excitement that can be seen when the client asks for something new. And that is why changing your colour house might be the best thing you can this year.

So maybe now is the time to look at some of the unique colour brands that are available. Of course the biggest companies will always have their place, and sometimes changing from one major manufacturer to another brings added cash benefits to the business.

Or maybe the time is right to add a supplementarity brand to your portfolio, one that differs from your current offering, that has a little bit more creativity attached to it, not just a ‘pick a tube and go’ mentality; not that there is anything wrong with that of course.

In this day and age your clients are become more demanding, they are wanting something extraordinary from their salon visit, and the same old same old is wearing a tad thin, that’s why I believe changing (or adding to) your colour could be the best thing to happen to your salon and your team this year. Fire them up with something new, something challenging and something that makes them think more creatively and more bespoke with the colour services they offer your loyal customers.

Do some research and see what’s out there, you might be surprised at the fabulous array of colours now available. Alternatively, I am more than happy to have a chat with you about colours that you might find interesting.
