I LOVE CANDLES!

There isn’t a day goes by when I don’t burn a candle or two in the homestead. I’ve always been a candle burner. Getting the balance of fragrances right is the key to a great candle (of course), plus the quality of the wax and wicks plays a major part as well.

Recently I have been fortunate enough to sample a new range called Convey & Co  and they are stunning.

The candles I received were Mulled Pear & Cranberry and Amber & Sweet Orange. Bother very festive and both delightful. The candles filled my living room with gorgeous warm fragrances that added to the Christmas vibe. I’m still burning them now as they last for ever! I highly recommend you check them out using the link above. This independent UK based company have definitely hit on a winning idea as the candles and melts are very stylish, look expensive, smell awesome and are very affordable. Watch out for new diffusers coming soon as well.

Another candle I have been burning regularly of late came from Julie Mercer who is an independent beauty therapist based in York.

Julie specialises in Neals Yard Organic products and gave me some great advice about eye cream. At the same time we discussed candles and she sent a ‘balancing‘ candle to  me. This is fabulous, very spa like and absolutely perfect sat on my office desk burning away and delivering its gorgeous fragrance my way. The clean crisp smell is very relaxing and ‘mind clearing’ and I love the way it just gently floods the room with that unmistakeable scent of a spa. Julie’s website and social pages are definitely worth checking out as she is a very knowledgable and helpful beauty therapist.

Balmain Hair UK is one of my absolute favourite haircare brands and everything they do they do with great style and panache.

Late last year I was thrilled to receive some Balmain candles and face masks. Of course it goes without saying that the mask is my go to whenever I venture outdoors, after all, it’s okay to ‘dress up’ even when you are just out walking. The candle, oh my, it’s divine, with the classic Balmain hair fragrance that just oozes luxury. I love to light this a couple of hours before I settle down for my Friday night G&T’s, it creates a balmy, sensual atmosphere because the musky scent can be smelt everywhere in my home. One of my all time faves!

By the way, if you are a Balmain stockist (and in my mind, everyone should be) you could actually give this candle away free with purchases Christmas just gone.

Leanna McDonald is a young lady I have known for many years, and she has this incredible drive that makes her a success at everything she does, from hairdressing to candle creator, everything is done with the utmost conviction.

Gorse & Still is a fabulous range of candles and diffusers and ‘gifts’. Unfortunately it’s not operating at present due to the pandemic, but absolutely you musty check out the website and discover a wide range of fragrances inspired by the highlands of Scotland. Without doubt one of my most favourite candle companies, one I must re-order from as soon as is possible. I especially love the Bothy fragrance, its dark and dusky and has that unmistakeable fragrance of rural Scotland.

Jo Malone: What can I say, we are very lucky as the other half receives lots of these gorgeous candles from his clients throughout the year and they are always, always stunning.

When the delightful packages land at home, I’m always the first to open them to see what fragrance has been chosen, and there hasn’t been one that has disappointed. A true British classic.

Plum & Ashby is a range I stumbled across last year and it is beautiful.

Their collection is ‘scent heavy’ in the best possible way, with the Christmas collection conjuring up memories of childhood Christmas’s being one of my favourites. It’s a brand I need to invest in some more as every candle I have tried has been an utter delight.

Did you know that Abercrombie and Fitch have a candle that is based on their best selling fragrance Fierce!

Lighting this candle and letting it work its magic creates a wonderful ‘fierce’ fragrance throughout the house, It’s exactly the same as the waft of gorgeousness you get when you walk into an Abercrombie & Fitch store.

My most favourite candle ever….. absolutely ever is Spiritus Sancti from Cire Trudon

The name gives an indication as to the fragrance. It’s like a church when the incense has been wafted around the pews. It immediately takes me back to the church I went to every Sunday with my Mam. Of course Trudon candles would be the most expensive of all featured here but, honestly, if you have never witnessed the amazing aromas created by these luxurious candles, do yourself a favour and get one!

Of course there are many many more candles that have been burnt over the years but these are just a few of the current fragrances wafting around Maison McMahon.
